Gošafoss, in North Central Iceland

Gošafoss (``Waterfall of the gods") lies about midway between Akureyri and Mżvatn in Northeast Iceland. The story is that the decision came to the chief law-giver, Žorgeir, whether Iceland as a country would convert from its pagan heritage to Christianity in the year 999. After pondering the question alone -- and deciding on Christianity -- he came here to pitch his carved idols into the falls, giving it its name.
