Coming out of the barren roadways of Northeast Iceland, it's a bit of a surprise how green the river-fed areas are around Egilsstaðir. The smooth river Lagarfljót runs alongside Egilsstaðir, the commercial center of East Iceland, which is almost free of any tourist-designated activity.
