The glacier Fláajökull, Southeast Iceland

Previous page Back to the top... Next page

Southeast Iceland is dominated by Vatnajökull, the world's third-largest icecap (behind the Antarctic cap and Greenland). Glaciers pour like bony fingers from the whole of the icecap into southern and eastern Iceland, transporting ice down from the cap and depositing silt materials in the land at the bottom. Fláajökull is the glacier visible in the center here, with Heinabergsjökull visible at the far left.
