Bláa Lónið, near Keflavik

Previous page Back to the top... Next page

The waters at Bláa Lónið (``blue lagoon") are blue for a reason: Naturally geothermally heated, the water keeps an unusual color as well as its 100-degree Fahrenheit temperature, making it an ideal bathing spot rain or shine. A nearby power plant is testament to the fact that Iceland can draw the bulk of its power needs from natural sources (hydroelectric and geothermal). Low outdoor temperatures may be the best time to take advantage of the soothing minerals at the Blue Lagoon.
